Friday's after-work drinks
11 Dec 09: It's Aussie culture to hit the pub straight after work on Friday to have a few drinks with colleagues. Pubs are usually full and many people hanging around chatting and letting loose. I did that last Friday too.
Brooke has called for everyone in the office to have drinks together last Friday after work. In the end, a handful of us went together, including me. Headed to Beer Deluxe at Federation Square to have rounds of alcohol and bread with dips. Lots of laughs. No one seemed to be colleagues anymore. We were all friends at that very instance.
There were me, Brooke (auditor but is a Silver allocator for Christmas period... I work with her), Kathryn (auditor but is a customer service rep for Christmas period), Dalia (new gold invoicer after I left the position), Enrica (case coordinator), Sean (external auditor, from Ireland), Leanne (stock room manager), Angela (gold allocator) and Natasha (party plan). I talked quite a bit to Dalia as she is new in the office and haven't got much chance to speak to her. She's really friendly too! Stayed around from 5.15pm til 8pm and we left (except Brooke, Kathryn and Sean who stayed on til 11pm!)
I think our company should do something like that more often. It brings people together. I realized that people either do not mix (cuz they just want to head straight home after work), or they will only mix with people from their department. No one really knows each other at all. And to me, it seems really unlike the Aussies! I thought Asians tend to mind their own business and do their work, caring less about mingling. But it seems that Aussies are like that too!
Thanks to Brooke for organizing the drinks! Honestly I am glad to work with her this Christmas (so was I last Christmas!) because she is always cheerful and likes to get people on their feet and being involved. I like her spirit!
