SBS Training and Mini-tour
Wednesday 13 September -- we Media students were invited to go to SBS to have a conference and training about accessing the media, how to identify news that are newsworthy, what kind of story that will appeal and match the audiences, writing media releases, developing a working relationship with the media, preparing for (TV, radio and print) interviews, and selling our message to the media. It was a 3 hours worth of training and lecturing. Interesting, yet quite dry cuz we have to sit there and listen and listen... I like the tour! I like to see how the news people work on the news, how the broadcasters do their broadcasting in the little studios, and I like to see how those little pieces of information and interviews being put together, and how those people work on the media productions. Our emphasis today is on SBS Radio more than other stuff though. Our trainer today was Maureen O'Keefe, who was a radio broadcaster in ABC radio before, and she is now a training manager and media person in SBS Radio. She's really nice, and very eloquent. No wonder she was a broadcaster.
SBS Radio is the world's most linguistically diverse radio network, starting off in 1975, with the main purpose of reporting about the settlement in Australia. It has programs in 68 different languages, with famous programs such as ALCHEMY, which is a youth program, and WORLD VIEW, which is multicultural affairs program.
SBS in Melbourne is situated in Federation Square, just opposite Flinders Street Station.
So, today, me and some of my classmates went to this SBS workshop and training together. So, we took photos :) I was wishing to take some photos of inside SBS, but we didn't get to.

I really like this photo of us....! We were all trying to fit 4 faces into the screen of a little camera.
I really hope I can work in the media when I grad.... Either as a broadcaster (hopefully) or a journalist. It'll be great! If only I can get a job like that either here or in Singapore.... Sigh...
